COON HUNTERS SURPRISED AT WHAT’S UP THAT TREE
by Steve McCadams

November 16th, 2007

This week’s hunting and fishing tale comes from raccoon hunter---that’s coon hunter if you’re a real sportsman---Chris Coley of Henry County who was deep in the woods one night last week when the surprise came.

Chris was hunting with his dad, 73-year old J.B. Coley of Dresden when their two coon hounds treed what they thought was a big house cat. The black and tan hound, along with the English dog, treed and thought it was the real deal.

Turns out it was…sort of. When Chris and J.B. shined the light up the tree and saw the white looking bulky hunk of fur they thought it was a big white house cat but turns out it was an albino coon.

Chris said he had never seen one but heard of a few from other hunters. His dad J.B. has been hunting coons for most of his 73 years and had never seen one either.

Chris plans to get the coon mounted and took the 15-pounder to a taxidermist in Troy where Bobby Joe Hansbrough Taxidermy will preserve the trophy for future conversation and story telling.
